Captain Ken Flaherty
Milford Fire DepartmentMilford, NH
Capt. Ken Flaherty has taken a leading role in firefighter safety ever since joining the Milford Fire Department in 1990. This has helped keep the department at the forefront of fire safety in New Hampshire.
Capt. Flaherty Ken was instrumental in expanding the department’s Explorer program. The program teaches how to properly use all of the firefighting gear and provides overall safety training for the 46 members of the department. He has also played a role in writing grants to better the safety of firefighters in Milford, as well as in surrounding area agencies. Capt. Flaherty also strongly encourages his team members to attend Skid School, an advanced driver safety program.
The Milford School System has benefitted from Capt. Flaherty’s safety efforts, too. He instituted lock-down drills in local schools so that children know exactly what to do during a fire or other emergency situation. Milford Fire Dept. also holds five fire drill programs each month, one at each of the neighboring senior housing and elderly care facilities.
Capt. Flaherty is a certified safety officer, and he continues to update his safety training and awareness by attending the National Fire Academy.
