Asst. Chief John Davis joined Taylor Township Fire/Rescue in February 2010 after retiring from the El Paso Texas Fire Department, where he was Chief of Safety for 25 years. Since joining the department, Asst. Chief Davis has instituted a safety committee that meets regularly to discuss and gather inputs with safety concerns at the department. He has also helped rewrite and add to many protocols and SOPs and SOGs concerning safety.
Asst. Chief Davis’ vast safety experience has greatly improved the department as a whole. He has helped lead trainings, making safety a top priority, and acted as safety officer on incidents while responding in first due and mutual aid calls. He has also instituted a department safety committee. The members of the committee are a cross section of the department whom meet monthly to discuss and bring forward any concerns dealing with our safety.
Asst. Chief Davis has also discussed developing a quarterly meeting of all county fire, law enforcement, department of transportation and towing agencies to discuss roadside safety on accident scenes. For Firefighter Stand Down week he also put together an presentation on safety, and Taylor Township Fire/Rescue plans to share this presentation with surrounding departments.
