Zach Cottrell has only been with the Bucksport Fire Station for only a short time, but the firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) and already earned the praise of his superiors.

His lieutenant says that Cottrell drives the whole crew to eat better and improve their fitness routines in order to stay at the top of their game. He also spends time researching the newest safety tactics and shares helpful information with his fellow firefighters.

Cottrell plans to do more community work in the future, such as setting up training classes for in-home safety and bunker drills with area students.
